Chloe & Shannon Journey through the NICU - Part 5

November 17, 1998

Today we didn't manage to get to the hospital because of the poor road conditions, it was icy and foggy on the motorway and other drivers where driving like idiots.

We did get news though when I called the NICU, Shannon is now feeding almost always from bottle with very little going down the tube. Other then that we have had no other news on the babies today.

Before work I called the NICU again to find out how the babies have been overnight and to my amazement I was told that both Chloe and Shannon are on demand feeds, which is great news especially when you think that Shannon was struggling to bottle feed two days ago!!

A small setback occurred when we arrived at the Hospital in that both Chloe and Shannon had been moved from demand feeding to 4 hourly feeding. The reason for Chloe's back track was that she had only put 5 grams of weight on in the last two days and the reason for Shannon's change was that she had a large feed at 5:20pm but decided to be sick all over the Staff Nurses trousers!

Shannon is now 4lbs 10oz and Chloe is 4lbs 8oz (still!).

For the second week running I must work so I cannot get to the Hospital tonight, so Emma is going to go with her Mum. This evening Emma fed Shannon and then as soon as she stopped feeding her Chloe started screaming for her feed.

Chloe is now on demand/4 hourly feeds which means that if she crys for a feed before the here four hourly feed she will be fed, but she cannot go any further then 4 hours between feeds. Shannon is now on demand feeds and does she demand it!!!
